Long before Quentin Tarantino’s landmark 1994 film, the term “pulp fiction” was a celebrated and cherished (well, in some circles, anyway) form of American pop culture.
 
Now of course, it’s just another marketing niche, applying to almost any type of story or book wallowing in excessive amounts of gore, blood and other bodily fluids that can’t be publicly named, at least not in a polite forum like this one.
 
But, as with the case “noir,” this so-called genre has a complex history leading to a current definition that would probably surprise – and delight - its originators.
