by Robin Storey | Writer Spotlight
My name is Robin Storey. I'm a ghostwriter of life stories and memoirs, from either a personal or business perspective.
If you've led a full and interesting life, if you've overcome adversity, or if you've gained some wisdom to impart to the world, people want to read it!
How and why did I become a writer?
Writing is my job and I know it sounds cliched, my passion. It's a part of who I am. However I didn't have the confidence to follow that passion straight from school, but later, as a young mother, I enrolled in a Freelance Writing Course. From that point, there was no stopping me!
Past work experience, and what I'm working on now
I've been writing professionally for 25 years, starting off as a freelance writer for the print media (pre-digital), after I finished my course. Then I progressed to creative writing, publishing a number of short stories and fiction novels, as well as my own memoir on surviving breast cancer.
The experience of writing fiction novels has enabled me to develop the storytelling skills that are necessary no matter what type of book you're writing - how to hook the reader from the first page, maintain pace and flow to keep the reader interested and to end with a satisfactory resolution.
At present I am working on the memoir of a woman about her struggles with the aged care system to get proper care for her husband with dementia. Very poignant!

Writing advice for those reading...
Read as widely as you can. I have attended numerous workshops over the years on all aspects of writing, which are great, but I credit reading good books as having had the most impact on improving my writing.
Getting critical feedback on your work is also important, as you can't improve if you don't know what your flaws are.
