Presidential Candidates Kick-off Social Media Campaigns
It’s amazing the difference four years can make. Social media has been around long enough to have played a key part in the last presidential election, not to mention smaller political campaigns throughout the country in the interim. But with Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign announcement via YouTube, a new era of social politics was ushered in. Republican candidates Ted Cruz and Rand Paul immediately followed suit with social media messages of their own. Let the race begin.

Joining numerous agencies across the country, the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Department in Texas is one of many East Texas law enforcement agencies using social media to improve community outreach and assist with police efforts. From warning citizens about dangerous areas to avoid, to asking for information about missing persons, Texas police are using social media to keep citizens safer, and more safely involved – for example, when providing crime tips. For once, the anonymity of the Internet can be used for good.
