What is SEO?
Search engine optimisation is a way of maximising the number of visitors to a website by making sure that the site appears high on the list of results returned by a search engine. You want your website to be high ranking in order to be more visible and to get more hits. But how do you ensure your website has is effectively optimised?  Here are some strategies you should consider when looking at SEO for your business.

Use effective link building
One of the most effective SEO strategies is link building.  Best link building strategies include liking to your own site and promoting your work on other blogs. By producing quality content with relevant links across multiple blogs and websites, your business website will be visited from many different landing pages. With lots of relevant links your search ranking will improve making your business more visible to new customers. When choosing where to use back links you should make sure the sites are of good quality and relevant to your particular niche. This will prevent customers being directed to irrelevant content and leaving your site immediately.

Set realistic goals
By setting short-term, medium-term, and long-term goals for your business you will keep your fast-growing company on track. This could be increasing your visitor numbers, reducing your bounce rate or increasing your blog sign ups. With these goals in mind you can set company management strategies including social media and marketing. Achieving these goals will give you the incentive to keep going and help you to monitor the effectiveness of your business strategies. When is comes to SEO, you can use tools such as Google analytics giving you a detailed overview of how your strategies are working and when to amend them.

Stay user friendly
Key words and great links are excellent for high search engine ranking. However, if your website is not user friendly or doesn’t make sense, people will leave your site as soon as they arrive. You should always use key words in your content but be careful not to overuse them. Sometimes, when these words are found too often your content won’t make sense, will be less readable and won’t give off the right message for your business. By using SEO and keyword tools on your blog or site whilst also writing great content is the best way to check your posts are correctly search engine optimised.     

Improve your page speed
If your page is slow loading then visitors will lose interest and move on to the next website. The user experience is so much better when you have fast loading pages that are easy to read, so improving the page speed for your website will keep visitors interested and improve their experience. The best way to do this is to use tools such as Google's Page Speed or Varvy's Page Speed Tool to get recommendations on how to improve your page loading speed. You can also see other helpful hints on how to improve your rankings when you use these freely available web tools.

Voice search and Digital Assistants
More and more people are using voice search to answer questions and search for content online. Your own online content should be adapted to reflect this new way of searching to help your website be found. Wording your content clearly, concisely and in a way that answers questions that may be asked will help you to be one of the top features in search results. Last year voice searches featured but they are becoming more and more sophisticated.  Not only will direct answers to questions in the website content be featured but also the thoughts behind what is being asked. To improve your ratings in these results you must ensure you have quality content to feature highly in the search rankings.

Market to your target customers
Targeting your base customer is essential but you also want to attract as many new customers as possible to grow your business. By deciding what your target customer profile is will help you get to the right people using SEO marketing. Using key words and language relevant to your target audience means you are more likely to get the right people. Advertise and target your customers according to the demographics you have set and you will find new customers start pouring in. By doing this you will expand your customer base even after your marketing campaign is completed.

Be mobile compatible
There’s no point in having great content if it is unreadable on mobile devices. More and more people are using their tablets and mobiles to search, view and shop on the internet so if you want to be seen you need to be mobile friendly. Ensure that your site is optimised for mobile devices and check out Googles Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) project which can increase mobile load times even further. Be careful when your site says it is mobile friendly as some content can be cut when viewed on such a device. Test your settings yourself to make sure it has the look and the load time you want.
