Debunking The Social Media Marketing Myths That Are Impeding Progress

Social media marketing is a wonderful tool and there is no reason why every company should not be benefiting. However, those who take the time to meet with app builders to discuss the subject often find themselves subjected to various myths. Social media expertise may seem easy to come by for some but for those who do not take the time to remain on the cutting edge?

The task is significantly more difficult. Before a business decides to dip their toes in the social media marketing waters, they must learn about the myths that have sidetracked so many others. Fortunately, this helpful guide is on hand to help businesses make sense of it all. Learning as much as possible before meeting with app builders is a crucial step.

Let's take a moment to explore some of the most common myths and how they affect a target audience.

1. Facebook Doesn't Pack The Same Punch Anymore
There are many revisionists out there who are trying to spread false prophecy about the help that Facebook can provide. In fact, some will go so far as to say that this site simply does not work anymore. Too many companies find themselves overly worried about trying to remain in touch with the younger audience. Instead of asking app builders about general ways to build an audience, they are too focused on the whims of the youth.

While there is something to be said for being willing to cater to a younger audience, Facebook is still a very powerful tool. Perception is not always everything. Facebook remains one of the most important social media hubs because there are billions of people for companies to reach out to. From there, it is up to the company to decide how they are going to approach the process. Generation Z is not the be all end all.

2. Scheduling E-Mails and Posts Ahead of Time Doesn't Work
Today's consumer enjoys a certain sense of predictability. If they are following a business on social media or receiving e-mail newsletters, they want to know that they are being considered at all times. Unfortunately, there are some who neglect the importance of timeliness. They believe that their content will find its audience, even if they are not taking the time to schedule posts.

The same goes for those who rely on e-mail marketing techniques. Some companies may believe that they can engage their audience in real-time. These tactics may work for some but the average consumer is a creature of habit. They expect posts and e-mails to be provided within a certain time frame. App builders always recommend setting a schedule and sticking to it for that reason.

3. The More, The Merrier
This is a common principle that is passed along when it comes to the generation of content. Whether the company is posting on social media, sending e-mail updates or engaging in any form of digital marketing, they will often believe that more posts equal more engagement. That is because they do not take the time to place themselves in the shoes of the average consumer.

No one wants to be inundated by meaningless posts or spam e-mails. "The more, the merrier" might be a great concept for a weekend get together or a game of pickup basketball. It is not a guiding principle that any company should ever be choosing to live by. Make sure that each post counts and that the target audience is actually receiving useful information. Otherwise, they will unfollow and unsubscribe, post haste.

4. Video Marketing Isn't Important
Gone are the days when companies and app builders would come together to create products that provided the user with a wall of text. Now, the world demands video-based marketing. It is much easier for a company to get their point across with a simple video, as opposed to taking the time to write it out. Video marketing is not just a trend that is gaining traction in the present.

It is here to stay and companies must plan for the future. Those who do not prioritize the importance of video marketing are placing themselves at serious risk. It does not take much to become totally obsolete in the modern environment. Having a site or app that does not provide helpful video tutorials or advertising to the consumer is an easy way to get left behind.

5. Influencers Are Not Crucial
Many brands who are meeting with app builders are unaware of the fact that influencers have taken on a greater level of importance. Businesses are still in denial when it comes to the old ways of doing things. They do not want to believe that the scales have tipped in such a dramatic way. Meanwhile, truly forward-thinking companies are embracing the new way of the world.

Individuals have the power to sway public opinion on any number of topics. The world of music is filled with social media influencers who have the power to propel up and coming acts. Even makeup companies are looking to barter with well known Instagram accounts. In many instances, a well-timed post from an influencer can offer as much assistance as an expensive marketing campaign.

Companies that take the time to learn more about the myths that are being allowed to circulate experience far more success over the short term and long haul. Be sure to examine these areas and how they will affect the business' prognosis before meeting with app builders.
