The holiday season boosts annual profits for a variety of businesses - particularly in the retail and service industries - whether shopping is done in-store or online, and most businesses spend much of their time and marketing budgets ensuring that their customers know of every sale, bonus, or perk on offer while shopping their brand. With all the money coming in during Black Weekend, not to mention the rest of December, it’s a perfect time for businesses to pay a little forward.
But isn’t that what #GivingTuesday is about?
Sure. But is one day really enough?
Businesses rake it in for weeks while consumers spend up a storm to lavish gifts upon family and friends. In the midst of all that commercialism, it takes more than one day of giving back to balance the cosmic scales. So why not devote some of your business’ resources to promoting even more generosity to those in need? Your customers will love you for it, which will mean loyal business the rest of the year.
Here are a few ideas:
· Tweet about your favorite charities or causes throughout the month of December, informing your customers and inspiring them to donate. Offer to match their donations.
· Choose one product to promote via social media, and offer 100% of the proceeds from sales of that item to your favorite charity, or ask your customers to vote from a list of charities/causes.
· Ask your customers to submit stories of families in need this holiday season. Choose one, or many, and give them a holiday to remember.
· Make your business a collection center for your local food pantry, homeless shelter, Toys for Tots branch, etc. Offer coupons and incentives to encourage your customers to stop by and contribute.
Whether your business is large or small, giving back to those less fortunate in your community – especially during the holiday season – is never the wrong answer. And with all the technology and social media platforms at your disposal, it’s that much easier to make an impact and do some good. Loyal customers who'll love you for your generosity are just a bonus.
