What is Vine?
Vine is a Twitter-owned mobile app that allows users to create short video clips. Each clip, known as a Vine, is under six seconds long (okay, six and a half for you pedants) and will play on loop until closed. Vines can then be shared across social media. Who uses Vine? Vine has 13 million users, and can be found on the smartphones of teenagers, marketers, celebrities and...well, anyone, really.
Why should you care?
Vines go viral. 16-year-old Maisie Williams (Arya Stark in Game of Thrones) has shown the world she’s one to watch by posting funny, original Vines. Zach Braff from Scrubs has gained a Vine following for serenading the camera. Even Snoop Dogg has been praised for his Vines, although they mostly consist of him listening to his own music. Vines are mini commercials, too. Or at least they can be. Last year, Dunkin Donuts made the news by being the first company to use a Vine as an entire TV commercial. Trident Gum quickly followed. Is Vine good for marketing? Absolutely, yes! Video marketing is a big deal — we explain why here — and Vine makes it easy. You don’t need special equipment, or editing software, or anything. You just need a good script. Vine is a perfect addition to your social media campaign. You can really tease the audience and leave them wanting to see or find out more (and then you direct them to your website. Yay!). When it comes to Vines, humor works best, so keep things light, and you’ll be fine. Wondering what other platforms you’re missing out on? Subscribe to our ghost tips and we’ll keep you up to date!
