I don multiple hats - writer, teacher, coach, mother and homemaker. But writing is where my heart lies. So at the beginning of my career I took a copyediting role at a publishing house rather than a well-paid HR executive job at a multinational. Just so I could start on my writing career.
How and why I became a writer
I have been writing poetry since my school days, and in college I started writing fiction. When I started looking for a job after college, I got a copyediting offer from Thomson Press and HR executive offer from Adobe. I chose the former, and here I am, telling you how I became a writer!! Past work experience and what Iām working on now I have developed K-12 Computer Science textbooks and tutorials. My work has appeared in Huffington Post. I specialize in IT and Education domains, writing blogs, ebooks and whitepapers for B2B SaaS and Software development companies. Even if it's 10 minutes or 200 words a day. Create a routine and stick to it. Even if you write 200 words a day, you would have written 6000 words at the end of the month. Equivalent to 2-3 blog posts or a short ebook. That's also 72000 words at the end of a year. A novella or non-fiction book you can self-publish or start pitching to publishers or literary agents.
