By planning ahead and embracing each day for everything it’s worth – and using what works for you. Consider today – as of post time it’s Monday, April 20, 2015. And there’s LOTS to choose from. Depending on your marketing needs you could make use of these angles: It’s Monday. Love it or hate it, it comes around once a week, offering a perfect opportunity to grumble (if that’s your thing and it makes sense for whatever you’re promoting), to be inspiring, to offer tips or reminders to take your followers through the week – with hashtags like #MotivationMonday or MondayFunday at your disposal. Or make your own! It’s Patriots’ Day. Sure, this isn’t a day off for most of America, but it’s still worth calling attention to if it fits naturally into your business. With some holidays or days of observance being focused on marketing can back-fire big time. Whenever you’re not sure, take a look around and see what others are doing – and how they’re being received – before posting. It’s Marathon Monday. The Boston Marathon is run annually on Patriots’ Day, and people across the country and around the world will be watching to see who finishes when – proudly united in the feeling of being #BostonStrong two years after a deadly terrorist attack near the finish line in 2013. April Vacation starts today. Across the U.S. many students from kindergarteners to high schoolers are off for the week, and you can expect there to be plenty of traveling, playing of video games, watching of television, and complaining by parents as the week progresses. There’s plenty to talk about here. It’s 4/20. If you’re a “toker,” you know the significance, and if you’re a medical marijuana dispensary – or one of the vocally proud contingent of “fans” from Tommy Chong to Andy Cohen – then this is your day. Bonus: Earth Day is Wednesday. And there’s no harm in getting a jump on talking green. If you’ve got a product or service to sell, surely there’s SOMETHING here for you to latch onto. And if not, there are plenty of other holidays and “special” days you can leverage to make your marketing stand out even when everyone else thinks it’s just a regular day-ending-in-Y. If no one else is capitalizing on National Lima Bean Respect Day, then it's your moment to shine. Got a great example of offbeat holiday marketing? Tweet me and share!
