The technology field is quite vast and one of those fields that continue to experience a disequilibrium in the proportion between jobs availability and supply of the same skills. The tech market just like any other market has a demand and supply curve whereby supply is inversely related to demand. A higher salary decreases the quantity of labor absorbed by the market and vice versa. However, there’s always a solution to a problem. For example, here’s more data that can help bridge the tech talent shortage by showing the countries considered as the best tech talent acquisition destinations.

So if you are looking to become a mobile application developer or simply looking to join the tech industry, what are some of the technical skills you should strive to learn? But first things first…

IT Labor Market Overview
Globally, the IT job market is getting tighter as time goes by thanks to the broad set of technical skills in hot demand. A recent report by Computer World has shown that the number of tech jobs will continue increasing by at least 22% until 2022. This spiking demand will ultimately lead to more and more job opportunities cropping up in the IT sector due to more people looking to gain entry into the IT space. On the other hand, the U.S. tech market is plagued by a chronic shortage of tech professionals. In 2017 alone, the country was able to generate more than 607,708 computing jobs nationwide. This compared with the 42,969 computer science graduates during the same period.

To make matters worse, another report by the White House has indicated that in 2018, more than 51% of all STEM jobs are projected to emanate from the computer science field. Of this number, the US government alone is expected to create an additional demand of more than 10,000 IT and cybersecurity jobs.

Moreover, the private sector throughout the US has continued to express concerns over difficulties in scoring qualified workers noting that multiple tech-related occupations are on demand but short on supply.

This creeping shortage has been fueled by two major labor trends. First, the receding market value for tech skills coupled by the sustained frenzy around short-term tech skills gaps which are being clouded by urgent and potential issues in managing tech professionals.

Here are 7 IT Jobs in Great Demand and Low Supply

Mobile App Development
Mobile application developers have and will continue being demanded. According to a report by MoBlog, the revenue from mobile development is projected to hit $99 billion in 2019 expanding the market even more. If you are looking to be a successful app developer, you should strive in becoming fluent in multiple programming languages, such as Java, Objective-C, HTML5,  Python C++, C#, and Swift. Additionally, UX and UI design skills will also come in handy in giving you aptness in project management.

IT Architecture
IT architects are the brains behind designing IT systems and infrastructure. Commonly referred as network architects, they help setting up, monitoring the system performance, and troubleshooting networking related issues.

IT architects also field technical inquiries from the company’s associates, plan new networks, and even train new employees. Lastly, they are also deployed when a company is looking to review the existing hardware and software efficiency.

Cybersecurity
Any IT-oriented individual or company will attest that there have been a lot network infiltration instances going on which has led to an increased need for cybersecurity experts. Organizations looking to ensure that their data capture or security behind their network wall is protected has been on the rise.

Q&A Engineering
Having a skilled Q&A Engineer helps you avoid buggy software. As such, companies are looking to hire these individuals to help in putting their programs to rigorous tests in a bid to troubleshoot weaknesses that need to be addressed by developers.

Internet of Things
Machine learning projects have been disrupting the tech world thanks to IoT. More and more hardware is getting interconnected making the IoT a worthy opponent in the tech battle. The industry has also brought along Big Data opportunities in terms of software development and engineering mostly focusing on associative thinking/learning, communication, even and collaboration. As a result, more and more professionals in this field continue to be on high demand.

Blockchain
Blockchain has been used on many levels to securely manage information access. This distributed ledger technology has proven to be interesting to both businesses and even governments thanks to its ability in conducting an almost innumerable number of transactions.

Multiple prognostications have indicated that blockchain technology will have a widespread impact on almost all the capitalism horsemen including revenues, customer satisfaction, profitability, and market share. That notwithstanding, intrepid analysts have suggested that once the technology’s kinks iron out, it will be used to fuel other developments like the Internet of Things, consequently propelling a revolution at the central business process level.

To underwrite this, Research firm IDC has forecasted that by the year 2021, more than 25% of the Global 2000 companies will be using blockchain technology as their digital foundation to scale their businesses. High profile companies like Maersk, UBS, Barclays, Walmart, and Sony are already experimenting with blockchain. Other vendors like IBM, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, and SAP are also queueing up sizable investments to facilitate multiple blockchain solutions.

Cloud Computing
IT professionals armed with software as a service (SaaS) and cloud computing skills are a hot ticket both in the short and long-run. Many companies are hiring tech talent with virtualization skills for Microsoft Hyper-V, Amazon AWS, and VMware for purposes of private cloud hosting which makes it one of the most in-demand skills although barely working at optimum.

Final Thoughts
Tech talent shortage has led to an increasing number of remote tech jobs. More and more companies are looking to hire even a remote developer as long as they have the requisite skills. With all these job positions, compounded by limited skills, the software developer salary has been on the rise for the past 5 consecutive years. It is also important to mention that companies are increasingly becoming proactive by training their workers in data science skills among others to meet the fast pace of the tech world.
