As a business owner, much of your time is spent focusing on the company itself and its operations. While there is nothing wrong with that, after all, you want your company to be successful, it can also prove to be quite beneficial to look at ways your business can make a difference to the local community. Did you know that by getting active in the community, your employees will regard the company more highly, you’ll get better and more recognition in the community itself, and you will have the joy of knowing you’re giving back and doing something positive?

Does your business make a difference in your community?

If you’re convinced that it’s time for your business to make a difference in the community, but aren’t sure how to go about it, then you’re going to want to read on.

Consider a Scholarship Program
What better way to show your appreciation and thanks to the community your business is located in than by offering a scholarship for a local student. You can choose just how big a scholarship you wish to offer, whether it be a full or partial scholarship.

Coca-Cola is an excellent example of a company that sees the benefit in offering these scholarships, as you can read on the USA Scholarships website. Not only does it enhance the company's reputation in the community, but it is helping to make a difference in terms of building a network of community leaders, which benefits all businesses.

There's also the fact that a scholarship program is a non-profit program, which means it is tax exempt. It's a win-win for all involved.

Put Together Volunteer Programs
Another option is to put together volunteer programs that allow your staff and you to volunteer on various community projects. This could be such things as the local food bank, volunteering at a hospital for sick kids, or even the popular Habitat for Humanity.

Everyone will have the satisfaction of giving back to the community, plus it helps to build a team relationship among your staff.

Create a Charity Drive
Instead of choosing existing programs, why not have a staff meeting and discuss what cause the company should support and then host a charity drive. There are all kinds of creative ways you can raise money for a cause, whether it just in the office or you hold a public charity event. Again, you will be giving back to the community while encouraging that team building relationship. Everyone will feel good about the work they are doing and proud of their employer (you) for caring about the community and its people.

Work with Local Businesses
Making a difference in your community doesn’t have to be through charity and fundraising; it can also be through day-to-day business activities. Look to local suppliers and vendors to do business with rather than looking outside the town, state, or even country. This helps to create local jobs and a vibrant local economy.

So Many Ways to Make a Difference
As a business owner, there are really no limits to the many ways you can make a difference to your community. Your efforts will only help to build your reputation and brand while giving you the satisfaction that you’re showing appreciation to the community that is helping your business to succeed.
