Whether it’s a diet, exercise regime, cleaning schedule or blogging routine, it’s easy to let one setback turn into defeat. Here’s how to get back on track. Social media Take inspiration from the world around you. Struggling with a Monday morning? Can’t believe it’s only Wednesday? Excited about the game? Sad because it’s sunny outside and you’re stuck indoors? Whatever you’re feeling, you’re not the only one. Use these experiences to bond with your audience. Make memes. Make people laugh. Provide inspiration. If you’re worried about being too negative, remember you can put a positive spin on just about anything (and that will probably make you feel better, too). Networking Some people love networking. If you’re not one of them, grab an industry friend who feels the same way and go to events together. Not only will you hold each other accountable, but you’ll probably find it more fun. Website tasks Take a look in Webmaster Tools. Check for broken links and make sure your pages are indexing. If you use Moz or Raven Tools, run a site crawl and fix anything it flags up — from missing meta descriptions to duplicate content. If you’ve been avoiding this stuff, you might have a lot to do, so break it down into smaller tasks. Struggling to blog weekly? Beat writer’s block and be honest with yourself. Is once a week too much? Try twice a month. Still too much? Monthly is better than nothing! Online marketing SOS So, you’ve fallen behind with email marketing, abandoned your Facebook campaigns, not updated your blog since March, and are now trying to pretend the Internet doesn’t exist (apart from the cat videos). Don’t panic. If things are really bad, start small. Write out all the things you should be doing. For example:
Then, break it down. Commit to doing one tiny thing for each task each day. So, day one might look like this:
Not only will you feel like you’ve achieved something, but these tiny tasks add up. By the end of the month, you’ll have contacted 30 bloggers, and should have gained a little momentum. Readers: how are you recommitting to your social strategy? Let us know in the comments! Comments are closed.
