Well, it is great to get your business ranking there, and it’s possible for anyone, providing you have good SEO. In this blog post I’m going to give you an insight into getting your business on Google maps and trying to rank on the map in search. Google Maps It is very handy to get your business on Google Maps for many reasons, for the ease of your customers who want to find you, for using a map on your website, and for the reason why you’re here, to try and rank in the maps for a search term. It is a very simple process to get your business listed at your location on Google Maps, and personally I would call it essential for any business to do so. Google My Business To get your business on Google Maps, you must follow a process, signing up for Google My Business. You can sign into Google My Business with a Gmail account that you already own, preferably your business email, to ensure you receive any necessary emails to the correct account. You will be asked to input some information about your business and its location to help them understand who and where you are. So, make sure you have all these on hand, ready to get going, don’t worry, this information is all very simple and you should not have to look very far to get it. Once you have inputted all this information, you will be asked to confirm you are authorized to complete this action for this business, which you should be. Now for the inconvenient part, you can only verify your My Business account by post, which takes 1-2 weeks for the postcard to arrive. Verifying your My Business account You have now waited 1-2 weeks and your postcard should have arrived at your business address, and you are ready to verify your account. The post card you have received will have 4 steps to how to verify your account on it, so I will not bore you by repeating them to you. The verification code you have received on your postcard will only last 30 days, so don’t wait too long to verify your account. Upon verification, you will be made aware that your listing should appear on Google Maps in around 6 weeks. Updating business details Now you have begun the verification process, you can ensure all your details are correct for your business, and update any missing or important details that will help users find your business on Google and Google Maps. In some cases, when entering your location, the pin that locates your business does not land exactly where your business is, this is something you can change once you have verified your business, to ensure Google Maps is pointing out exactly where your business is located. Search Engine Optimization Now you have 6 weeks before your listing will be appearing on Google Maps, but once you are listed it does not mean you will be ranking on the map for any search terms, you must ensure your search engine optimization is in order first, so use your 6 weeks wisely, and get your site optimized for location based keywords you want to rank on the map for. If you are already ranking at the top of page one on Google, for your preferred keyword, then as soon as you are listed on Google Maps you should appear in the map for this search term. However, if you are not ranking at the top of the page for your location based search terms then a wise investment would be SEO services, getting your site to the top of the page for the keywords you want to appear on the map for. This can take a varied amount of time, depending on how competitive your keywords are. For example, if you are trying to rank for ‘Web Design Rotherham’, the process will be a lot quicker than for a business targeting ‘Web Design London’ due to the competitive nature of the industry and location. So, you have to be patient and put trust in the person doing your SEO to take care of the process well and in good time. So, now you have completed all account details, verified your account and had search engine optimization services. Providing all has gone well you should be able to see your business in the maps section for your desired search terms.
