Growing your follower count can be tricky. And once you figure out your own "secret sauce" and start gaining traction, you may find yourself up against Twitter's 2k killer.

What's THAT?

Well - when your follower count reaches two thousand, Twitter looks at your "follower to following" ratio and prevents you from following any more people until you've gained more followers. Don't believe me? Take a peek around the Twitters and you'll see LOTS of folks stuck, stagnant in 2k Twitter hell.

But you can beat it. Here's how:

If you've encountered Twitter's 2k killer already, you know what we're talking about. If you haven't and your follower count is less than 2k right now, you'll want to learn - or you'll be stuck in Twitter limbo eventually (and don't say we didn't warn you)!

Confused? Here's how it looks:

Jane has 300 followers and in an attempt to up her follower count, she follows people - lots of people. She gains fifty followers (or so) thanks to her efforts, but once she follows 2,000 folks (really quite easy to do), Twitter turns off her ability to follow anyone else because her followers (350) to following (2,000) ratio is off.

The only way she'll be able to follow more users is to "up her follower count" to approximately 1,600 - and THAT seems pretty hopeless, doesn't it?

What can she do? Well, she can take the time to sort through her list and unfollow the 1,650 people who aren't following her back, but without a tool to help her manage this process, she'll find this REALLY difficult, time-consuming and just not worth the time.
