The two things that always draw people together are food and the holidays. Thanksgiving is all about the turkey, Christmas is all about Thanksgiving leftovers and any other foods the family cooked. Sometimes it’s fun to cook sometimes it’s more convenient to order in which brings up the big question. Are food delivery services as popular during the holidays? If you’re looking to get into the food delivery business that’s a question you need to know the answer to. In this post we’re going to be talking about the different elements that affect food delivery services during the holiday season.

Filling the void
First you need to understand that there is a need for food delivery services during the holidays. One reason for this is the convenience. Most people don’t want to cook during the holiday season. Cooking can take up time from things like shopping, family games, etc. By having the option to order in, it makes it a lot more convenient for whoever’s cooking. It’s fast and easy to order. There is a 123% increase in food delivery orders during the week of Christmas every year. That means that year after year more and more people choose food delivery services over cooking.

Data from Postmates that highlights how important food delivery is to consumers during the holiday season.
We dove into ordering trends during the week of Christmas and found that:
  • Postmates saw a 123% increase in orders placed over Christmas week YOY.
  • There was a 95% increase in orders throughout December from 2017 to 2018.
