Blogging: Follow these tips that rookies often ignore.1. Be you One big mistake that a lot of rookie bloggers make is trying to be someone else. They will write in the style of their favourite blogger, and even copy their posts. Don’t do this. Just be you – you’ll be more authentic, more relatable, and ultimately more popular. 2. Go social An important accompaniment to any blog is a social media presence. You should be promoting your posts on Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, and any other relevant platform. These are places that people go deliberately to interact with their favourite bloggers, so you will be missing out if you don’t communicate with your audience there. The more followers you have, the more people will be clicking through to read your content. 3. Be consistent Your audience needs to know that they can rely on you to regularly produce content that they are interested in. This means sticking to a regular update schedule, preferably of at least one post a week, as well as sticking to the same niche topic. Don’t start writing about baby clothes if you’re a food blogger! 4. Set up a home office You need an environment where you can come to work, with the real attitude shift that comes from sitting at a desk with all of your tools in front of you. Make sure that you have healthy office snacks for brain food, a pen and paper, and a good laptop with a fast internet connection. Add in a comfortable chair that won’t hurt your back, and you have a space you can come to every day with a working mindset. 5. Take great photos No matter what your blog is about, you will need photos to go with it. These will help catch readers’ eyes, explain what you are talking about, and provide something to post on social media. Learn how to take good photographs with your phone, and consider investing in a DSLR camera. This will increase the quality of your blog hugely and will bring in more readers. If you can’t take photographs of what you blog about, you might be able to find stock images online which will fit with your topics. Don’t use photographs without permission, as it could end in a costly legal fee for usage. 6. Work on your writing Writing is the essence of your blog. It is what will bring readers back time and time again. Don’t skimp out on the skills necessary. Each blog post should be at least 300 words long, preferably above 500. Learn writing techniques and tips which will make you a better writer. Don’t just expect readers to struggle through typos and grammar mistakes – edit your work! 7. Keep trying Keep trying! Don’t be disheartened. If you keep improving your blog content and posting on social media with the right tags, you will find more readers as time goes on. Everyone has to start somewhere, and you won’t become a superstar blogger overnight. Anyone can make money from their blog if they follow these tips. With high quality posts and good readership, you can attract advertisers and paid promotions, as well as free items for reviews, and much more.
