5 High Profile People Who've Embarrassed Themselves Online

4/1/2015

by Lily Bradic
If you use the Internet on a regular basis, it’s virtually impossible not to embarrass yourself somewhere along the line. Whether that’s a poorly timed tweet, a message sent from the wrong account, or a misinterpreted joke — it could always be worse. Here are five celebrities who have embarrassed themselves much more publicly than you ever could:

Picture
Courtney Love

When Flight MH370 disappeared last year, Courtney Love thought she’d found it. Unsurprisingly, she hadn’t — but she did spark a whole series of memes.  At least she tried?

Jaden Smith

Are Jaden Smith’s pretentious title-case tweets worse than any other teenager’s pretentious tweets? Probably. As a public figure, he’s (unfortunately) a role model for other kids, so it actually has weight when he advocates giving up on education. You’d think someone would at least tell him not to take himself so seriously…

Ashton Kutcher

"How do you fire Jo Pa? #insult #noclass as a hawkeye fan I find it in poor taste," tweeted Kutcher, before realising the Penn State football coach had actually been fired in relation to a sexual abuse scandal.

Moral of the story? If you’re going to comment on news articles, at least make sure you’ve read them.

Sam Smith

Sam Smith tweeted an apology for missing a show in Nashville, saying he was too sick to perform. Three hours later, he was tweeting about having the “best night EVER” in a karaoke bar.

While it may seem like your tweets are lost in the void once you hit ‘send’, they’re not — and they can come back to haunt you, especially if you contradict yourself.

Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan was publicly humiliating herself long before Twitter, which makes her public call for everyone to calm down and think positive seem even more embarrassing.

“WHY is everyone in SUCH a panic about hurricane (I’m calling it Sally)..? Stop projecting negativity! Think positive and pray for peace,” she tweeted.  From someone who projected negativity through the first half of their twenties, this seems a little hypocritical.
