As we wrap up 2017, now is a good time to review your business’s progress over the past year. Some things to look for are what you’ve done well, if your marketing strategies were a success, if your operations were run efficiently, and what, if anything, you can do to improve in 2018. While you’re doing a year-end business review, it may be a good time to also review your website to see if you’re on top of digital trends. If it’s time to refresh your site, here are some trends to keep in mind as you get going.

Website designs to keep in mind for 2018.

White Space
Studies have shown that websites that are too crowded with information can be overwhelming to visitors. One of the biggest mistakes companies make is trying to put too much information on one page. If your website looks too busy, your message may be lost on viewers which can hurt sales. White space can be powerful when used properly. When you make your own website, try using white space as part of your design. Not only does it make your page more visually appealing to visitors, but the content you have on your page will stand out more and capture the reader’s attention more effectively.

Bold Colors
In the past, businesses have strayed away from colors that come off as too bold or overwhelming for fear that it may drive people away or give them a negative reaction. However, when used in moderation, bold or bright colors can make a statement and help your business stand out in the crowd. Don’t be afraid to use cold colors if they complement each other and don’t overwhelm your page.

Quality Content
In 2018, quality content is still going to be king, which means if you don’t already have a content strategy in place, you should. Content doesn’t always mean the words on your web pages, however. You should plan to include a mixture of print and media content in your content strategy that you plan to deliver to your audience. People want to see how you set yourself apart from the competition, so including a blog on your page to show your product knowledge or expertise is a great use of content. You should also keep your blog up to date so people always have fresh, relevant content to read. Videos or podcasts are another great way to deliver content and can be shared across multiple channels such as your website and social media.

Quality Visuals
In addition to providing quality content on your website, you should also plan to include high quality images or other visuals to draw in the customer’s eye and make them want to learn more. Infographics are a great way to deliver content and will likely remain popular among consumers in 2018. There are several sites on the internet that can help you create infographics, or you can enlist the help of a graphic designer to provide customized, branded visuals for your website.

Be Mobile Friendly
If your website still isn’t optimized for mobile use, you should make it a priority for your site going forward. Most people consume content on their mobile devices, which means if your site isn’t mobile-friendly, you’re likely missing out on capturing a large audience of potential customers.

Integrate Social Media
You could have a beautiful website design, but if you aren’t promoting it across the right channels you’re likely missing a huge amount of exposure. In addition to having a quality site, you should also have a social media presence. Sharing information in social media channels and providing a call to action to visit your website for more information can help increase traffic to your page and drive sales.

Make 2018 the year your business reinvents its web presence by creating a beautiful website. With a well-designed site and the proper marketing strategy, your business should see increased traffic and higher revenue.
