We’ve seen how Facebook adapts and responds to competitor threats, like when it changed its privacy settings and implemented ‘everything Timeline’ in response to Google+. Or when it began offering a “subscribe” option, allowing users to follow folks they weren’t friends with, and solidly stomping on Twitter’s turf.
Well, Facebook is coming after Twitter pretty aggressively with its latest creation, “Interest Lists,” and it makes one wonder how this will all play out for the little blue bird.
But what if Twitter turned the tables?
What would happen if Twitter integrated Facebook’s Open Graph? It’s working great for Pinterest, Spotify and even FourSquare (we say ‘even FourSquare’ because Facebook offers its own check-in feature). As this thought-provoking piece from Inside Facebook suggests, “Twitter could also create Open Graph actions for following new users, favoriting tweets or creating public lists. Pushing these stories to Ticker would add opportunities for users on Facebook to discover content and conversations on Twitter.”
Hmmm. And at the very least, it would keep Facebook users aware of Twitter, which is something Twitter should worry about with the latest stats telling us that most social media users are spending the bulk of their time on Facebook and people prefer engaging with brands on Facebook over Twitter.
