The act of ‘ghosting’, common in dating, is now making rounds in the professional sphere.
And while reasons for this abrupt end to communication are generally understood, the question remains of which industries are most prone to it.
Education and training specialists TheKnowledgeAcademy.com sought to answer this. Between the months of March and May of this year (2019), 1,325 US full-time employees across a range of sectors were surveyed to ask if they have ever ghosted a company, or been ghosted by a company.
Advertising, Marketing, PR and Media companies are the most likely to ghost prospective employees - 28% of employees in this sector state they have experienced this.
Applicants in the Business, Finance and Legal jobs are the most likely to ghost an employer - 23% have admitted to doing this.
People in Government and Education experience the least amount of ghosting (employer and employee).
